Shabbat Bechukotai @ Bet David

This Shabbat at Bet David

Join us for our Kabbalat Shabbat Service led by Madeleine Hicklin on
Friday, 11 May @ 18.00.

On Saturday, 12 May
we welcome the delegates and guests of the SAUPJ conference to our
festive Shabbat service at 10:00.
The day itself starts with an option of Shiurim at 8:45 at Bet David (details below), and the Cheder class meets at 8:30.
The service is followed by a Brocha in the Middleton.

All congregants are invited to join and to mingle with the participants of the conference.

Children‘s activities are taking place alongside all services.

SAUPJ Conference—Shabbat (12 May @ 8h45)

This Shabbat, Bet David has the honour to co-host the SAUPJ Biennial Conference. As part of the conference, there are two wonderful shiurim.  All congregants are more than welcome to attend these talks on Saturday morning.

  • Rabbi Hillel Avidan, Rabbi Emeritus of Bet David, is presenting the topic: “Ecology and Torah – Shnat HaShmittah and Shnat HaYovel”
  • Student Rabbi David Benjamin is leading a discussion on: You shall proclaim freedom throughout the Land!” Jewish attitudes towards slavery and subjugation

Shavuot (19 and 20 May)

This year’s Shavuot celebration will be very special. Not only are we going to have our first “The-winner-takes-it-all-cheesecake-competition”, but also a Netzer Sleepover, an outstanding talk by Danny Adebe about his journey from Ethopia to Israel, and the double adult Bat Mitzvah celebration of Theresa Sobel and Hester Hollander. (See additional flyers, attached hereto and available in the Shul)

Please note that we will re-dedicate our Tree of Life on Shavuot morning. New leaves will be placed on the Tree of Life before the morning service at 9:45, and names will be read out during the Yizkor service at around 12:00.

A collection of photos from the Lag B‘Omer Picnic can be found on our Facebook group for Bet David members: www.facebook.com/groups/BetDavid.
