Shabbat Pinchas @ Bet David

Dear Congregants and Friends,

If the world was still the same as it was at the beginning of the year, we would meet this weekend in Pretoria for the SAUPJ Conference, celebrating Progressive Judaism in South Africa. Unfortunately, it has changed dramatically and all plans to be with our friends at Bet Menorah have fallen into pieces, but that should not prevent us from being proud of our movement and its achievements. Therefore, we will celebrate this Shabbat AND we will virtually join the Pretoria Community on Shabbat morning – please join us on Saturday at 10h00 for a special Shacharit, featuring Bet Menorah. Details about how you can join our Shabbat services on Friday and Saturday are in the AdKan ( and below.

The rest of the conference will also take place in the virtual space of the internet. The SAUPJ will be hosting a special Havdalah Service on the eve of the SAUPJ Biennial Conference 2020, to acknowledge the outgoing committee and welcome the incoming committee. Special guests will be Carole Sterling, Chair of the WUPJ and Rabbi Sergio Bergman, incoming President of the WUPJ. Please join us at 18h00 (6 PM) on the 11th:

If you haven’t yet registered for the Biennial on Sunday, here is the link to the straightforward Google Form which will enable you to do so: Registration Form: The conference will take place via Zoom, so you will also need to register for the Zoom Meeting, prior to the meeting itself.
