Dear Congregants and Friends,
Shabbat Chazon (Shabbat [of] vision) takes its name from the Haftarah that is read on the Shabbat immediately prior to Tisha B’Av, from the words of rebuke and doom coming from Isaiah in the Book of Isaiah 1:1-27. Tisha B’Av (the 9th day of the Jewish month of Av) itself is the day in the year on which we remember tragedies and catastrophes that have befallen the Jewish people throughout history, from the destruction of the first and second temple, the many pogroms, the expulsion from Spain and in younger history the beginning of the mass deportation of Jews from the Warsaw Ghetto and the bombing of the Israeli Embassy in Argentina. Tisha B’Av is thus believed to be a day which is destined for tragedy.
We will mark both Shabbat Chazon and Tisha B’Av with services, reflecting the special meaning of them, and we invite you all to join us; on Friday and Saturday for our Shabbat services, and on Wednesday evening for a service and shiur. The programme hereto and the information on how you can join are below and in the attached AdKan newsletter (http://tiny.cc/AdKan).
Shabbat Shalom and for those fasting on Tisha B’Av, well over the fast.
