Limmud 2017
Don’t forget about Limmud happening this weekend (4—6 August). There are still a few spaces left for weekend registration or alternatively for Sunday only registration. This year, Rabbi Schell will be leading the Progressive services as well as giving a talk on Sunday. Services at Bet David take place as usually.
Farewell, Bet David family
Wow, I can’t believe it has been almost two years since I returned to South Africa to be with my family when my Dad got sick. So much has happened since then. Having to say goodbye to both my parents in the space of four months was incredibly hard. It has been an emotional rollercoaster to say the least, but being able to stay in my parents’ home and attend regular services at Bet David, the shul in which I grew up, has been very comforting. And having the support of the Rabbi, staff and congregation, most of whom knew my parents well, has helped me through a very difficult time.
This will be my last Shabbat in Johannesburg with a few more in Cape Town with my sister. Once again, I leave for a new chapter in my life. I’m returning to Israel at the beginning of September, which, after so long, is almost like starting over! I’d like to thank you all for the warmth, support and love that you’ve all shown me since I’ve been here. This is not “Goodbye”, but “Lehitraot” (see you soon). And if any of you come to Israel, please look me up.
Shabbat Shalom , Darryl Egnal
