The Temple David Trust
As a result of the untimely passing of Len Gerber, there is a vacancy on the Board of Trustees. The remaining Trustees are David Woolf (Chairman), Geoff van Flymen, Desmond Sweke and Rudi Buirski. The Trust Deed grants the remaining Trustees the power (and obligation) to fill any vacancy. The Trust Deed states that there should be no less than three Trustees and no more than five.
The Trustees invite members of Bet David, who may be interested in filling the vacancy, to submit a CV and a motivation addressing how he/she meets the following criteria:
– A member in good standing of Bet David
– An understanding and appreciation of the Progressive movement and its ethos
– Have business and managerial skills
– Extensive business experience at a senior level
Please address your submissions in writing to David Woolf, care of the office (admin2@betdavid.org.za), before 15 November 2019. The Trustees will review all submissions.
Bat Mitzvah Fiona Capstick
My name is Fiona CAPSTICK. I shall be celebrating my adult bat mitzvah on 2 November, after a very lengthy journey.
I was born in Durban and grew up in Pietermaritzburg where I attended school and university.
Upon graduation and with teaching diploma in hand I pursued postgraduate studies in Italy, France and Germany for two years before going to Israel in December 1968 where I lived on a moshav close to Tulkarm on the West Bank.
As a translator and interpreter, I have worked in para-diplomatic, diplomatic and military missions. I remain highly active as a sworn translator to the High Court of South Africa and retain a vibrant interest in international affairs, especially concerning the Middle East and The State of Israel. Classical music, opera and Jewish history are my main intellectual pursuits.
I shall be sponsoring the final year of school education of two students, one male and the other female, at the Mitzvah School as my bat mitzvah project. Education is the only way to break the cycle of poverty, become independent, strive for self-realization and have any hope for the future. Tikkun olam.”
