Shabbat Teruma @ Bet David

Our first Friday Night Live service was a great success and we are looking forward to the next one on 27 March.

Dear Congregants and Friends,

With the beginning of March, we enter the joyful season of Purim and Pesach with its special celebrations and services.

  • We open with a bring-and-share Shabbat dinner on Friday, 6 March, after the service. Please contact the office and let us know if you would like to attend and what dish you can bring.
  • On Monday evening, 9 March, we invite you to our Purim celebration at Bet David. Fulfil the mitzvah of listening to the Megillat Esther (sort of) as you watch our ITJ Students presenting the Purim story in a very new way and our Cheder learners singing their Purim songs. Put on your fancy dress everyone (prizes to be won) and come to the synagogue! Cold drinks provided, please bring alcoholic beverages. No charge – donations welcome.
  • Our flagship fundraising event is on Sunday, 29 March, when we invite you to a wonderful concert of the Johannesburg Symphony Orchestra at our Shul. Tickets and information to be found here: https://bit.ly/2GSPMNV
  • Pesach is only a month away and we invite you to join us for our communal seder on the first night of Pesach (8 April after the service) and our Children’s Chocolate Seder (12 April at 11am). Please contact the office for further details.
  • Last, but not least, we have a wonderful Shabbat right before us, inviting you to join us for our Kabbalat Shabbat Service at 18.00 with birthday blessings for our February celebrants and a dedication of a plaque in recognition of members who made contributions to the founding of our new shul by the Temple David Trust. Saturday morning, we meet for our service at 9h30, followed by a brocha and a Shiur with Ian Mann, inviting us on a journey to explore the development of halachah (Jewish religious law) from the Bible to today.

We are looking forward to a very exciting season of joy and celebration and hope to see you around.

Shabbat Shalom
